Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum

One of Scotland’s most popular free attractions, Kelvingrove combines fine art, natural history, and cultural exhibitions all under one grand, red sandstone roof. Highlights include a Spitfire hanging from the ceiling, Salvador Dalí’s Christ of St John of the Cross, and fascinating artefacts from ancient Egypt to Scottish history. With 22 themed galleries, it's a great place to spend a few hours for all ages, and there's a café and gift shop on-site.

Glasgow Science Centre

A fantastic hands-on experience for all ages, Glasgow Science Centre offers over 300 interactive exhibits that make science and technology fun and accessible. Spread over three floors, you can experiment with light, sound, energy, and the human body, and take part in live science shows throughout the day. It’s home to a state-of-the-art planetarium for immersive space shows, and the IMAX cinema screens science documentaries and feature films.

Riverside Transport Museum

This award-winning museum on the River Clyde focuses on transport and travel. Designed by architect Zaha Hadid, it’s home to more than 3,000 objects including vintage cars, bicycles, motorbikes, trams, and even a recreated cobbled Glasgow street from the early 1900s. Outside, you can also board the historic Tall Ship Glenlee, moored just beside the museum. It's engaging, hands-on, and great for families.

The Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery

Located within the University of Glasgow, The Hunterian is Scotland’s oldest public museum. It showcases everything from Roman artefacts from the Antonine Wall, to scientific instruments used by Lord Kelvin. The attached art gallery features work by Whistler, Rembrandt, and the Scottish Colourists. You can also visit the preserved house and interiors of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. A hidden gem for those interested in history, science, and art.

The Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA)

Housed in a neoclassical building in the heart of Glasgow, GoMA offers a frequently changing series of contemporary exhibitions from Scottish and international artists. It’s known for its thought-provoking displays, public engagement projects, and bold exploration of themes like identity, politics, and culture. Right outside is the famous statue of the Duke of Wellington – usually with a traffic cone on his head!
